Seventy players, men and women, participated in the 10th Annual Manchester Club – Cape Ann Savings Bank Golf Tournament on Monday September 10 at the challenging “The Meadows in Peabody” golf course. The tournament, dedicated to Dick Lysiak to honor Dick’s service to the Town, featured the ever-elusive hole-in-one prize of a new Chevrolet offered by Dick Mirak of Mirak Chevrolet. 15 community businesses also participated as corporate sponsors and another 30 were hole sponsors. The tournament was followed by a great steak and lobster dinner prepared by Bill Scott and other club members.

Hole-in-one monitors Craige McCoy, Lee Gates and John Floyd were not able to certify any winners of the Mirak Chevrolet, although several golfers reached the green in one stroke. Even with no hole-in-one there were plenty of prizes. The first place prize of $80 went to the team of __; second to __ and third to __. The longest drive prize of $50 went to Ed Young. Raffle prizes went to Dave Doucette and Luke Lombardi.
Since 1905 the Manchester Club has provided a monthly occasion for the men of the Town to gather, have a sociable dinner prepared by the membership and listen to speakers on topics of importance to the town and region. It’s also a major contributor to local causes. Every year since 1960 the Manchester Club has awarded scholarships to local high school graduates, distributing nearly $300,000 in educational assistance.
